Here’s my journal-ish blog, where I’ll ramble on about history, my travels (mostly in Florida, where I live), science fiction, and whatever bits of pop culture strike my interest.
Regarding the travel. I started a mission in 2006 to visit and photograph all the sites on the National Register of Historic Places in Florida. It went into high gear in January of 2007, after I got my first digital camera for Christmas. After taking about 20,000 pictures, that camera gave up the ghost last year in Bartow. Dropping it in the Apalachicola River several months prior probably didn’t help. Since I was only on day 2 of one of my extended roadtrips, I got another camera in Bartow. Actually a better one, and cheaper. As of last year, I’ve visited and photo’ed about 90% of the NRHP sites. So I’m starting to venture into Georgia. Just about all the photos I’ll post on the blog were taken by me. I’ll note any that weren’t.
I unabashedly love Florida. I was born and raised in Miami, then moved to central Florida, where I’ve lived the last 20-odd years. I love the odd bits and corners more than the big cities, though there’s interesting stuff in those too. Even though I’m a native, I try to have a tourist mindset when I’m travelling. There’s so much to appreciate about this state, if you just open your eyes and let yourself enjoy the journey.
The name for this blog comes from a combination of two things. The first is a song by one of my favorite singer-songwriters, Neil Finn. The second is a spoonerism of a quote from a movie I’ve liked for years.
Hope you enjoy this blog, and if your inclinations tend in that direction, the other one. Cheers!
